Change Your Mood By Changing Your Clothes

Spring has officially sprung! Are you excited, jazzed, ready to go and achieve all the things this beautiful season has to offer? Are you ready to see birds, spring flowers, and signs of new life after all.that.snow.? I am!

It’s been a long winter. A very long winter. I think we’re all ready for a fresh new start! Here’s the fun part - your closet is the go-to place to find it.

You read that right - if you need a little extra help (as we all do from time to time) to kickstart your spring optimism, motivation, and positivity, look no further than your closet.

Yes, I'm talking about your clothes - the positive mindset support we didn’t know we had!

Clothes are a powerful tool you can use to bring yourself up to a higher level even when you're feeling anything but good vibes.

You can use what you wear as a way to begin change from the outside in, using clothes you love as a positive trigger to open you up to positive new possibilities.

The simple act of putting on an outfit that you love, that lights you up and that brings a smile to your face has a ripple effect on your mood, your energy and your outlook.

Sound too good to be true?

Think about a time when you threw on something in your closet because you were too tired to give it a thought. (You know those days - the ones when you don't really like your outfit but you're not coming up with any better options so you just suck it up and head out the door.)

How do you feel all throughout that day? Tired, down, low-energy, maybe even irritable?

Now think about a time when you put on something you loved. Maybe it was a new piece you'd just bought, or maybe it was getting all dolled up and glammed out for a girls' night.

How did you feel then? Excited, energized, happy?

Clothes can help us feel how we want to feel, propelling us out of a funk and into a high vibe, high-energy place.

It’s funny how something so simple can make such a big impact on your day, but it can. When you change your clothes into something you love, you’ll instantly feel better. You’ll be ready to take on the challenges of the day, no matter what life throws at you.

Sometimes the change doesn’t start within. Sometimes the change starts on the outside and works its way in. When you look and feel great on the outside, you feel great on the inside, too.

You’ve heard of a “power suit”, right? It’s called that for a reason. The whole idea of a power suit is that it makes you feel powerful. It gives you confidence to step into that important meeting and be the best version of yourself. Even if you were nervous or anxious that morning, stepping into that power suit acted as a catalyst to change your mood and your mindset.

There’s actually a name for this phenomena. It’s called enclothed cognition, which is the systematic influence that clothes have on the wearer’s psychological process.

Scientific studies have been conducted which prove that what you wear can impact how you perform. The most famous study showed that participants performed better than their peers on a cognitive test, simply from wearing a doctor’s white lab coat thanks to the symbolic meaning of that attire paired with the physical act of putting on the coat.

So if you’re a science fanatic or just tend to follow the logic (like me!), you can trust in the power of your clothes.

Do you have at least one piece of clothing in your closet that makes you feel strong, powerful, beautiful, and brilliant? Hopefully, you have several pieces that make you feel that way!

The next time you’re feeling some kind of way, try putting on a piece of clothing you love. Fill your spring closet with clothes that make you feel like you’re on top of the world so you can easily slip into your happy pieces and watch your mood begin to change.

Changing your mindset can be as simple as changing your clothes.

It gets even better. The better you feel about yourself, the better others will feel about you. When you walk around with a spring in your step (pun intended) you’ll see that new opportunities are opening up all around you, just like the buds on your favorite spring flowers.

Your smile and confidence will radiate to those around you, and you’ll find that your positivity rubs off on everyone else, too! You know how it goes - one warm and engaging smile is almost always returned by another.

You’re literally brightening up your own little corner of the world by changing your mindset, which all started with getting dressed in the morning.

Let’s take it a step further. Considering that you’re probably doing a bit of spring cleaning anyway - why not tackle that closet and let go of all the clothing that doesn’t give you that awesome vibe? Then go out and grab a few new pieces that make your heart sing like spring birds!

Your spring wardrobe should make you feel amazing about yourself. The dreary winter blues are on their way out, and signs of change are all over the place!

Every day is a new chance to show the world how fabulous you are, and changing up your spring wardrobe is the first step! Let’s kick that winter mindset to the curb and start enjoying the new and upcoming beauty that the world has to offer.

ABOUT:

I'm a Minneapolis personal stylist on a mission to eradicate outdated style 'rules' so women can unleash themselves in all their beautiful, authentic glory!

I offer personal styling services that empower women to wear what they love by helping them ditch any outdated style rules keeping them stuck, showing them how to dress in a way that embraces their beautiful body and, the key to it all, having fun! I believe in a liberated style approach so there are no style rules, body shapes, seasonal colors or dos and don’ts given out here. Rather, I help my clients tap into what lights them up and dress with the purpose of expressing their authentic selves rather than impressing others.

This is all done through a combination of styling services (including wardrobe edits, shopping trips and styling sessions) available in thoughtfully curated styling packages designed to help clients unleash their true self through the power of style.

When I'm not helping women take back their power style, you can find me reading (about a gazillion books at once), learning the art of pole dancing, making & decorating cakes, binging a random circa 2000's TV show with my hubby, Aaron, while playing with my adorable rescue pup or, of course, shopping! :-)
